About me

Andrew Kamiti was born in Nairobi, Kenya and studied at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology graduating with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Despite his academic pursuits, Andrew’s true passion lay in the world of drawing and painting, a passion cultivated since childhood.

In 1991, Andrew made the pivotal decision to transition from a career in mechanical engineering to pursue his calling as an artist. His deep-rooted love for birds and nature as a whole serves as the driving force behind his artistry. With unwavering dedication, he strives to authentically capture the beauty and intricacy of wildlife in his work.

Andrew’s creative process begins with meticulous on-site studies of birds, insects, mammals, and plants, accompanied by an extensive collection of reference photographs. These observations serve as the foundation for his artwork, allowing him to conceptualize the angle, mood, and lighting of his subjects.

Watercolor serves as Andrew’s medium of choice for portraying birds and plants, while graphite pencils bring his drawings of mammals to life. His unparalleled attention to detail and commitment to realism have garnered widespread acclaim, with many of his pieces adorning private collections worldwide.

Notably, Andrew’s botanical paintings grace The Shirley Sherwood Collection in the United Kingdom, while his contributions to succulent studies have been featured in publications such as Flowering Plants of Africa in Pretoria, South Africa.

Through the publication of Limited Edition Prints, Andrew ensures that his art reaches audiences across the globe. Moreover, he remains actively engaged in conservation efforts as a member of the Nature Kenya Society, regularly donating his work to support wildlife preservation initiatives.

Andrew Kamiti’s ultimate aspiration is for his art to evoke joy and serve as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance of nature, advocating for the protection of the precious wildlife that surrounds us all.
